How are you?

But he eventually said:

Who are you?

Well, I have similar mistake that I made.

Richard M. Stallman, the founder of Free Software Foundation and GNU project, came to Korea and I accompanied him several days. He made many speeches in several places.

And one day, he made a speech at a University in Seoul. The thing was he held his microphone too far from his mouth so the audiences could not hear him. Being one of the managing staff, I had to climb up to the stage and tell him. So I wanted to say in my mind:

Hold it close to your mouth.

But I just came to say:

Close your mouth.

He was surprised one moment but he understood my English mistake. He held the microphone close to his mouth and also made a joke on my mistake.

하루는 KLDP 주체로 연세대에서 강연을 했다. 그런데, 마이크를 너무 멀리 잡은 탓에 소리가 잘 들리지 않았다. 그래서, 행사 진행을 맡은 사람 중 한 명인 내가 강단 옆으로 올라가서 말해 줬다. 마이크를 가깝게 잡으라고. 내 머리 속에선 이런 말을 생각했다:

Hold it close to your mouth. (그거 입에 가깝게 잡아)

하지만, 정작 내 입에서 나온 말은 달랐다:

Close your mouth. (그 입 다물라)

아주 잠시 당황한 스톨만은 내 실수를 곧바로 알아채고, 마이크를 가까이 잡았고, 농담으로 받아쳤다.
