Meal and set

In hamburger restaurant like McDonalds or Burger King, they pack hamberger, french fries, and soft drink together and sell. We call it meal. So, if you want a whopper, french fries, and a coke, you say you want a whopper MEAL.
But in Korea, we call it SET। You have to say whopper SET. They will not understand you if you say meal in Korea.

햄버거 가게에 가면 셋트메뉴라는 게 있다. 햄버거, 감자튀김, 탄산음료를 묶어서 파는 건데, 그래서, 불고기 버거랑 감자튀김이랑, 콜라를 먹고 싶으면 불고기 버거 셋트 주세요라고 말을 한다.
그런데 여기서는 셋트라고 하지 않고 meal이라고 한다. 셋트라고 하면 이해는 하는데, 한 번 더 확인을 한다.
meal이란 식사란 얘긴데, 아마 햄버거만 먹으면 식사가 안되는데, 감자랑 음료수랑 같이 먹으면 그래도 제대로 된 식사라고 생각해서 이름을 붙인 것 같다.
